Everything seemed in order, though most of it was glowing reports from former Captain's. Trevan never took much stock in those reports as Captain's tend to over do it when it comes to transfers and compliments. Looking at his schedule, he could see that one more member was still due to arrive, their long awaited ACEO which would be needed once the Dennison left Geneva. Flipping on his display screen he could see that the meeting was still about fifteen minutes away but decided to call anyway, "Commander Treven West to Ensign," he looked at the file again to be sure he was pronouncing it correctly, "tlha'nISta, just a reminder we have a meeting in my office in fifteen minutes." he said in a friendly voice. Where shall we start?" Shrekt was curious that the captain had not mentioned this to her directly, nor had briefed them jointly. She wondered why a marine would be briefed prior to his chief of security. She would remain guarded for the time being, but as cooperative as need be. (Reply Bracken) "Shall we go to my office to continue our conversation?" Shrekt suggested, implying that one could never know who was listening to conversations and her office was a secure a place as she knew on the ship at the moment. (reply Bracken) (posted by Kaweo Kanoho) (USS Dennison - Phaser Range 2L Leola Bracken - 0946) Shrekt regarded the marine for a moment before saying, "Very well, Lieutenant. Where shall we start?" Leola turned slightly, locking the display next to the phaser range, “somewhere secure, walls have ears. "Shall we go to my office to continue our conversation?" Shrekt suggested, implying that one could never know who was listening to conversations and her office was a secure a place as she knew on the ship at the moment. Leola nodded, “Sure, it’ll be a whole lot more secure than here.” Leola regarded her, and decided to go out on a limb slightly, she was certain that she was going to have to get her trust. “I can guess what you’re wondering, why is a marine getting involved with this. Truth is, there’s a whole load of reasons, some of which will get us both shot for me telling you. Suffice to say, I haven’t just been a marine for the last 25 years.” (Reply Shrekt) Leola nodded, and turned slightly, following the Tac officer to her office. “Tell me Lieutenant, What do you make of this Maltorian business?” (Reply Shrekt) (posted by Mark) (USS Dennison - Ben's Quarters- Atac Ensign (jg) Ben Soma- 2130) Ben sat on the bunk in his quarters, his tunic was on the pillow behind him one boot on the floor and the other still on his foot. After spending much of the day with Alosar Ben had finally learned what happened on the fateful day when his parents did not return to him. He had wanted to have been with them, maybe he could have done something, but he knew the end result. He would have joined their fate and the family line would have stopped with him. He stretched out on the bunk and began to replay the logs that had scrolled down the screen in front of him a nearly an hour ago. Most of the information had been repetitive which was no real surprise, anyone had access to unclassified information. It was the classified information, low level stuff nothing to secret, that held the answers for him. Within those logs he had learned that there was indeed a struggle as he thought. He turned his attention to the Katana that was on display on this mantle, his father’s sword that he would have passed to Ben when he came of age. Maybe his father had known something when he had given the sword to Ben for safe keeping, then again maybe it was just a fathers attempt to show trust and faith in his son, Ben preferred to believe the later. A sea of emotions began to sweep through him, but not those many would have expected. There was no rage, hate or vengeance, coursing through his veins just a sense of relief. He finished pulling of his remaining boot and as a single tear made its way down the side of his nose he said " Lights out." As he laid there in the darkness he thought it was finally over, the dark chapter came to an end and now he could come to terms with it more easily. The weight had been lifted from his chest after all those years bundled up inside, the healing process could now begin in earnest. If he encountered difficulties with the task he would seek out Lt. Alosar's help. (reply none) (posted by Milo Young) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Healer in the Tower Stardate: 2408.01.10 Day: 185 <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< (USS Dennison- Bridge - SO - Ensign G. Coleman- 1902) The drag of the ship through... whatever the hell it was that they were dragged through, had taken its toll on the bridge crew. Even Coleman, who was usually ever alert, and first string on the bridge crew, had been caught off guard and almost thrown to the floor. Fortunately he had managed to catch hold of corner of a duty station, and managed to keep to his feet. Reports came in, but they were of no concern to the security officer. His concern was the safety of the crew, and especially the CO. Being a rather large man gave him an advantage in that realm. Unfortunately, he was not blessed with a mind for solving mechanical issues. However, his ability to solve the human problems went uncontested. When he heard the captain complain about a pain in his neck Coleman immediately went to his side. Coleman had to kneel to get a good look. Being a little over two meters tall could be a problem at times. He reached out with a large, dark hand held the CO in place. "Captain, are you ok," his deep voice, even though a whisper, seemed to boom. Stakes didn't say a word, but his eyes said it all. There was more pain there than he was letting on. Finally the CMO managed to make it to the bridge. Coleman thought he should have words with the man about his timeliness, but then knew that this was not the time. Taking care of the injured was more than enough for the doctor to take care of. "Doctor," Coleman called over, "help me get the Captain to his Ready Room." (reply Nymes) The two men carefully helped Stakes to his feet. Supporting, almost, his entire weight, Coleman steered them to the Ready Room door. The action was almost effortless for the big African, so it appeared to the rest of the crew that the CO was fine, and that he just wanted some privacy with the CMO. (USS Dennison- Ready Room - SO - Ensign G. Coleman- 1904) Coleman lowered the captain into the chair in front of his desk and stepped back. It was clear that the captain was in pain. This was a bad time for the Co to be incapacitated. Here they were, in the middle of ... a subspace field?... he thought that he had heard. They had lost contact with the away team. There was no way of contacting Starfleet from where they were... was there? So many questions he couldn't answer. However, the doctor could answer one question, how bad was the captain? "Well Doctor, how is he?" (reply Nymes) (posted by Al Muir) (USS Dennison- Ready Room - CMO- Dr Nymes- 1905) Nymes watched the burly security man help the man into a chair, then step respectfully back. "Well Doctor, how is he?" Nymes didn't reply immediately, knowing that it was risky territory anyway to comment on an ongoing injury, and instead tailored his questions to his patient. Nymes followed through a quick neurological assessment, quantifying what he had suspected from his initial impression; The Captain looked concussed but scans showed that it was simply a severe whiplash injury; Nymes didn't particularly have the detective skills, or the clairvoyancy to determine it, but that didn't matter: the major worry was the potential for a Sub-Dural Hematoma. From the clinical examination it seemed unlikely, but the officer looked out of place, and definitely was medically incapacitated for the time being. "Sir, the scans show nothing untoward, I'm going to give you a pain-killer for now, but I want you to rest, and that means, you realise, that you must rest now. No, sir." Nymes said, as the man tried to rise from his chair. "No, sir. You need to rest. I will put this bio-monitor on your temple, just to give me a running scan in case anything goes wrong. In the mean time, I'll put my past to good use if you allow me to." "Nymes to Night and Shrekt. Please report to the Ready Room" (reply Stakes, Coleman, Shrekt, Night. Iyw) Nymes tapped a key on the desk computer, as the two people walked into the room, Ele obviously concerned at the current events. A look from the Trill silenced her questions before she had a chance to voice them. "Lieutenant, ensigns, the Captain has received an injury, most probably sustained from the passage of the Dennison into the Planet's orbit. My initial impression is that there could be some underlying neurological condition that I have missed on the initial scans. I have given him something for the pain, but he will not be able to move for a while. I suggest that, for the mean time, Lt. Shrekt, that since you are the ranking bridge officer, that you take command of the situation until I can get Captain Stakes back on his feet." (reply Shrekt) "The captain intimated that he wanted me to use my past as a diplomat during the current negotiations with the Maltorians; I will, of course, follow that order, after I am satisfied with the Captain's condition, and that he remains in no current danger." (reply Shrekt, Night, Coleman) (posted by GC) (Maltoria - Warehouse - SO Crewman Abu Nighy - 1922) "Mr. Nighy, what are your conclusions here?" asked Sanok. Abu looked at the Vulcan and then back out over the roof line. He really wasn't sure what to make of it all. Their tricorder's range was limited and he truthfully wasn't sure what he had expected. His briefing had been limited and he wasn't sure what was going on. He wasn't terribly good at this kind of thing, he had believed he had been selected for his training with new species. He was no tactician by any stretch of the imagination. After a moment of taking in the various structures that dotted the area, he finally said, "I don't have any, sir. What are we looking for? Where are all the people?" (Reply Sanok) When the ensign had reported in, they began to head back when he was ordered to remain in place. Soon they were joined by more members of the away team. It often seemed to Abu that people would know things when they were ready, which was lucky for him because he never felt ready. So he stood silently until he was joined by Lieutenant Bracken. "We're going to need access to one of their computers, that's going to mean finding one of the terminals, somewhere that we can... use. Now, we think that that speaker there, is going to have to hook up to a terminal somewhere. Seems to head off in that direction." The Lieutenant said gesturing toward a disappearing cable. "Your thoughts?" Abu's eyes followed the Lieutenant's finger, trying to think what to say to her. "That makes sense." agreed Abu cautiously. He really hadn't formed any particular opinions about their situation, comfortable with having others make the decision. Being questioned by his superiors was an uncomfortable situation for him. "But I'm not sure if I'm going to be of much help. I usually guard things, this situation is quite new to me. And I'm afraid to admit that my skills at the terminal are not my strong suit. Perhaps Ensign Sanok would have more input on the matter, as he was just here." suggested Abu, hoping that he had been somewhat helpful. (Reply Bracken) (Maltoria - Warehouse – CSO/2O Dale Bracken- 1923) Abu's eyes followed the Lieutenant's finger, trying to think what to say to her. "That makes sense." agreed Abu cautiously "But I'm not sure if I'm going to be of much help. I usually guard things, this situation is quite new to me. And I'm afraid to admit that my skills at the terminal are not my strong suit. Perhaps Ensign Sanok would have more input on the matter, as he was just here." Dale nodded, “Perhaps, but i need another scientist’s viewpoint, and one that isn’t tied to the whole officer mentality. Don’t be afraid to make suggestions. You know that my mother is the Marine XO?” Dale paused slightly, “You know that she was a screw up at school, and joined the corps as a boot at 16? (Reply Nighy) “Keep an open mind if an idea occurs to you, don’t be afraid to open your mouth, especially where I’m concerned. I may be the CSO, and 2O, but that doesn’t mean that I’m not going to listen to a crewman when he may have seen something that I’ve missed.” She smiled, gently, “keep your eyes open, scan at all times. Clear?” (Reply Nighy) (posted by Mark) (USS Dennison, Ten Forward, Ensign Adams- 1951) Ensign Adams was still helping the medical team assist the man who had just been assaulted by Lt. Darsons. It had been nearly fifteen minutes since his security call but no-one from security had come by to take any statements. "Adams to Security, Lt. Darsons has attacked a person in Ten Forward and has now left the area about fifteen minutes ago. See if you can pick her up, this man is hurt but nothing the medical team can't handle. A broken nose and a slight head injury. Do you require anything else?" (Reply Bridge Security) (posted by Kerry Fletcher) (USS Dennison- Primary Engineering- Crewman Morgan Randell- 2030) Morgan had spent the last twenty minutes boosting the gain on the sensor but it was not enough to cut through the dampening field. He had even tried using overload power as Freeman suggested but even that did not help, what kind of power did these people have. They could teach the federation a thing or two about energy fields, all the power at his command and Morgan had only scratched the surface with it. The closer you got to the surface the more complete the dampening field became, at ground level it was probably impossible to cut through it with a phaser drill. Morgan hated being this close and not being able to go the rest of the way. Hopefully the bridge would approve the probe plan or the transporter test so he would have something to do other than drum his fingers on his terminal. He went through the motions of boosting the sensors again using what power was available to him, but once again he saw it was futile, there was no getting through this field. He had to admire the workings of it, this dampening field appeared to be perfect. The closer you get to the source the more perfect it became. He munched quietly on another piece of food that he had saved from earlier. He shifted on his feet to keep from getting stiff, when his stomach started to squeeze. ~Oh......~ he thought. ~That can't be good.~ His eyes flitted back and forth from the away team to away from the team. He considered slowly moving away from them to minimize the rumblings in his stomach. ~Oh my....what was in that stuff?~ he wondered, as he closed his eyes shut trying to get his body to cooperate. But to no avail and a silent killed was released. ~Sorry,~ he thought, as he hoped the wind might carry his gaseous discharge away. Praying that the worst had passed. (Reply Sanok, Bracken, Any) (posted by Kaweo Kanoho) (Maltoria- Power Station-ATac Ensign (jg) Ben Soma-2125) After having received the game plan from Commander West Ben began looking around for anything that would come in handy for the bypass. After searching around the area for a few minutes he had found a couple lengths of wire and one very twisted clamp, hoping the others were having slightly better luck he began to head back to the group. Searching had been relatively easy as there seemed to be no one walking around this section of the city, he figured with the fence in place an actual guard was probably not necessary. On the way back to the others Ben almost tripped on something embedded in the dirt road. He bent down to examine the object to determine what it was, grabbing the object he shook it back and forth to loosen it from the soil. It felt cold to the touch and very hard, quite possibly some type of metal. When it was loosened he gave a final pluck pulling the object clear from the earth. Wiping away the loose soil he brought it to eye level for an examination. It was a semicircular piece of something, the gagged edge indicated it was a part of something larger. In the dim light Ben was able to make out a few symbols embedded in the object. He decided it was past time to rejoin the others and began heading back again. With a little luck the others had found a few more objects that would aid their attempt to gain entry into the power station. As he drew nearer to the station Ben could hear movement off to his left, he dropped low and watched for the source of the sound. Within a few moments a Maltorian passed by, he or she didn't seem to be in any hurry, just another person out walking. Ben watched the figure fade from view and then resumed making his way back. When Ben reached the main group he headed over to Commander West to report his findings, such as they were. Holding up the wire, clamp, and the mystery object he said, " Commander, I managed to find two short lengths of wire, a clamp which has seen better days and this." He held the object out for West to examine it. (reply West) "I also saw another Maltorian out for a walk. They did not appear to be searching for anything, just passed by me without the slightest hesitation." Ben said adding his close encounter from a few moments earlier. "The individual was heading away from our location." (reply West/any) (posted by Milo Young) (Maltoria, Power Station, Ensign (jg) Sanok, 2126) After being ordered to find a way to breach the electrified fence, Soma went in one direction, while Sanok went in another. The Vulcan quickly melted into the darkness. Stopping in a doorway, out of sight from the street, Sanok put his tricorder on silent mode and held it close to his body, with one hand cupped over it, to diminish any light it produced. Making a quick adjustment, he scanned for metals that could be used in wiring. Their situation on Maltoria was becoming disagreeable to him. The Maltorians had summoned Starfleet. They had guided them to their hidden planet. They gave them coordinates to meet their leader. Instead, the team ended up in a dirty city that had random Maltorians roaming throughout. Because the tricorders couldn't detect Maltorian life signs, Sanok wondered if this place and the people were real, and not some great holographic stage, created for some purpose as yet unknown to them. Whatever the reason and the answer, the next step was to get through an electrified fence, so Sanok needed to tend to that. Still, this entire situation nagged at him. His scan revealed what seemed to be coils of wire stored in a warehouse down the street from his position in the doorway. Peeking out, he carefully looked for any Maltorians. Seeing and hearing none, he stealthily moved down the street, staying low and near the buildings on one side. After moving about fifty meters, Sanok stopped, taking refuge in another doorway. He looked and listened before moving again. Still nothing, so he stepped out. After another fifty meters, he crept into an alley across from the warehouse. Scanning the area again, his tricorder confirmed that coils of wire were stored there. Needing to cross the street, open ground, he made sure no one was in the area before proceeding. Sure that he was alone, he sped across, coming to a stop behind some bushes that were planted next to the entrance. Taking his phaser, he set it on low beam and aimed at the lock on the door. In a moment, he was inside. Sanok crept through a reception area, through some offices, then into the main warehouse area. Following his tricorder, he went straight to a rack of coils. Instead of carrying one, which would have been cumbersome, he cut a section of wire from one of the coils and slung it over his shoulder. Leaving immediately, he made his way back to the main reception area and the exit. Looking outside, Sanok saw two Maltorian males, directly across the street from the door he needed to exit. They weren't talking or doing anything. They were casually standing there, as though they were waiting for a bus. Indeed, thought Sanok. (Reply Any) (Posted by Bob) (Maltoria, Power Station, Commander Trevan West, 2128) Trevan stood watch while the others worked. He could see that Sanok had reached a building and had crossed open ground safely to get there. It was not the first route he would have taken but, then again their options were limited. Trevan passed on the word that Sanok was en-route back to them with some wire, hopefully that would do the trick and fool the security system. Trevan heard someone behind him speaking about a relay device and that they needed something to control the power output so as to mimic the exact output of the security fence. Trevan was not sure who made the suggestion but he didn't care. Grabbing his tricorder off his belt he tossed it to the group behind him, "Use this, that's all it is good for anyway," he said softly. Trevan went back to watching the couple on the street, hoping they wouldn't notice anything odd going on and alert security forces. (Reply all) (posted by Kerry Fletcher) (Maltoria- Power Station- ATac Ensign (jg) Ben Soma- 2130) Ben was scanning the fence trying to determine its power output, they would have to match it to make their bypass successful. Commander West had volunteered his own tricorder for the use of a relay. Once he determined the output of the fence it would be a simple matter of reconfiguring the tricorder and putting the bypass in place and then cut a man size hole to get through. Sanok was enroute with enough wire to serve the purpose but clamps were coming up short. While looking around the area he did find a pair of worn wire cutters, they weren't much but they would serve the purpose. If all else failed they could use one of the phazers to weld the wire to the fence. The tricorder beeped bring Ben out of his pondering, he had found the output power for the fence. Opening Commander West's tricorder he began to reconfigure it to match that of the output. Once he completed the task he placed the tricorder close to the base of the fence and hit the transmit key. Now it was time for the bypass. " Mister Sanok, if you would be so kind as to begin setting up the bypass, I'll start handing you some wire. You never found any more clamps by any chance did you?" ( reply Sanok) "Commander it may be necessary to use a phazer on a low setting to weld the wire in place, it seems we are short on clamps." (reply West) Ben fixed a piece of wire with a clamp on both ends and handed it to Sanok as he began the process with another piece of wire and the remaining two clamps. They would need a couple more lengths to have a space big enough to be able to crawl through. (reply as above/ any on Maltoria) (posted by Milo Young) (Maltoria, Warehouse Reception Area, Ensign (jg) Sanok, 2135) From inside the reception area, Sanok continued to observe the two Maltorian men that were standing across the street. They still hadn't done anything, and neither had they spoken to one another. They merely stood there, as though they knew someone would eventually be forced to come out the door. Of course, he needed to do just that. Sanok backed away from the door and did another scan of the building. There was another exit, in the back, but it led to another street on the block behind where he needed to be to safely return to the power station. He considered using it, but it was taking him long enough to return to the others, as it was. No, the logical thing to do for now, was to wait to see if the Maltorians left. Several minutes passed, and one of the men abruptly turned away from the other and began walking down the street, directly towards the power station. The other remained. "Sanok to West," said Sanok, tapping his comm badge. "There is a Maltorian male coming from your right, that is headed directly toward your position. I am currently inside a building, with another Maltorian directly across from me, so I am unable to return, at the moment. I recommend that you take precautions to not be discovered." (Reply West, Any) (Posted by Bob) (Maltoria- Power Station- ATac Ensign (jg) Ben Soma- 2136) Ben silently cursed as he realized that Sanok had not yet returned and he was holding out the wire to empty air, feeling like a bit of a putz. He continued fixing the clamps to another length of wire as he had begun to do seconds before when Commander West's commbadge spat out a message, =/\=Sanok to West,=/\= said Sanok, =/\=There is a Maltorian male coming from your right, that is headed directly toward your position. I am currently inside a building, with another Maltorian directly across from me, so I am unable to return, at the moment. I recommend that you take precautions to not be discovered.=/\= Ben immediately instructed the away team to seek cover while he did his best to hide their tracks and remove the evidence of their presence in the area, lastly removing the tricorder from the base of the fence and carefully sweeping away his own footprints from the scene. When he was under cover himself he watched the Maltorian approach their position, but something didn't seem right. The Maltorian was indistinguishable from all the rest and he did not appear to be actively searching for the away team. After a few minutes he must have satisfied his curiosity and he began to leave the area, once he was gone Ben broke cover and said, "Mister Nighy, I'd like you to continue the preparations for bypassing the fence. Whatever you can do, do it. I'm gonna see if I can break Sanok out of his prison." Ben said as he turned to Commander West, " With you permission of course." (reply West iyw) With that covered Ben walked over to Lt. Alosar and said, "Lieutenant, a question if I may. Vulcan's are slightly telepathic are they not? Did you pick up anything from the Maltorian, was he looking for us?" (reply Alosar) After listening to what Alosar had to say Ben began making his way to Sanok's position, he kept to the shadows as much as possible. As he got closer he could see the Maltorian was still waiting directly across from the building Sanok was in, and he did not appear to be in any rush to leave. Ben would have to distract the Maltorian so Sanok would be able to escape the building. He made his way around the rear trying to keep the Maltorian in sight but it was almost impossible, he was a block away from the Maltorian now. Creeping around the side he regained sight of his target, just as he was, hadn't moved an inch either way. Ben bent over picking up a large stone, ~Worked before, might as well try it again~ He thought as he made his way back to the rear of the building. He hid in some bushes and tapped his commbadge, " Sanok, I'm going to distract the Maltorian. When he moves for my position get back to the others, I'll be behind you." (reply Sanok iyw) Ben raised his head and looked around, there was no one insight. He aimed his projectile and let it fly, moments later it made a thud against something hard, probably the side of another building or trash bin. Now Ben waited for the approaching footprints. Within a few moments the Maltorian came into sight heading in the direction of the noise, when he disappeared further into the street Ben headed to the back door and tried the handle. It was locked but the phazer made short work of it. He made his way inside the building and up to the front entrance. "Let's get back to the others, before our friend decides to come back for us." (reply as above/ any on Maltoria) (posted by Milo Young) (Maltoria- Power Station- Commander Trevan West- 2138) =/\=Sanok to West,=/\= said Sanok, =/\=There is a Maltorian male coming from your right, that is headed directly toward your position. I am currently inside a building, with another Maltorian directly across from me, so I am unable to return, at the moment. "Mister Nighy, I'd like you to continue the preparations for bypassing the fence. Whatever you can do, do it. I'm gonna see if I can break Sanok out of his prison." Ben said as he turned to Commander West, " With you permission of course." Trevan nodded in agreement with his Security Chief and then tapped his badge to talk to Sanok, "Sanok, understand situation and we will take the needed precautions. You do the same," he said to the Vulcan. Thinking that he would need to pull a Bracken Special, as he dubbed it in his mind, the Maltorian directly across the way from Sanok continued to walk towards his position and out of his line of sight. Trevan searched around for something heavy that he could throw to divert attention, but nothing was nearby. "Sanok, I'm going to distract the Maltorian. When he moves for my position get back to the others, I'll be behind you." said Ben over the commbadges. A large noise was heard to the rear of the building and then silence. Trevan could see the two officers coming back towards them, in one piece thankfully. "I want past this bloody fence now gentleman. It's getting to crowded out here for my liking, so if you would be so kind...." he said indicating to the wire and fence. (reply all) (Posted by Kerry Fletcher) (Maltoria- Power Station- ATac Ensign (jg) Ben Soma-2140) "I want past this bloody fence now gentleman. It's getting too crowded out here for my liking, so if you would be so kind...." West said indicating to the wire and fence. Ben shared West's sentiments, it was becoming a little too crowded out here and they needed to get inside asap. Ben recovered the tricorder and wire from his hiding place and once again set the tricorder near the base of the fence and set it to transmit. "Mister Sanok," he said to his fellow security officer, " start attaching the wire to the fence. You are more steady than I am, and this is going to require some steady hands. I'll keep giving you wire, we're short on clamps so we'll have to weld some of it with the phazers." (reply Sanok) After a few minutes of work Ben and Sanok had the bypass in place and they were ready to cut through the fence. He quickly rechecked the fences output with that of the tricorder and was satisfied that everything was as it should be. He said, "Let's see what's on the other side shall we." (reply any) When they had cut a large enough section to fit through and no other Maltorian's came running to their position Ben turned to the rest of the group and said, "Alright, everyone inside. Let’s see if we can find some communications equipment or some kind of a data base so we can figure out where we are." Ben waited for everyone to pass through the hole in the fence and then he entered behind them. The buildings door was not locked so he pushed it open and stepped into the threshold with his tricorder. A quick scan revealed no life form readings which was no real surprise. The interior was dimly lit, casting shadows in the corners but he could detect no movement from within. Taking a couple exploratory steps inside he waited for the whoop of some kind of alarm or the flash of a defensive system, but there was nothing. A few more steps and still nothing so he decided it was safe and sounded an all clear and waited for the rest of the group to join him inside. (reply as above/any/all) (posted by Milo Young) (Maltoria- Power Station- Commander Trevan West-2142) Ben waited for everyone to pass through the hole in the fence and then he entered behind them. The buildings door was not locked so he pushed it open and stepped into the threshold with his tricorder. A quick scan revealed no life form readings which was no real surprise. As Trevan got the go ahead from Soma to enter, he did so cautiously. The dimly lit room he entered revealed multiple computer stations, unmanned, and seemed to be fully automated. It looked similar to a Federation relay station, with computers monitoring everything from, he assumed since he could not read the displays, distribution to power output. Trevan was certain that if they gained access to a workstation they could find out what was going on, and possibly a communication terminal to contact the Dennison, or someone from the First Ministers office to let them know the away team was safe and did not arrive at the designated beam in location. "Teams of two, look at everything and see if you can get an idea on the layout of this place, and possibly anything that looks like a communication terminal." (reply ALL) Trevan paired up with Ensign Soma and started to walk to the north end of the large room where there were about ten displays all controlled from a central unit located at the end of the row. Tapping the screen did nothing, as he figured, but it was still worth the shot anyway. The displays, which were currently scrolling data in Maltorian, were in blue text with several lines of orange and red. Not wanting to blow something up by hitting the wrong control, they needed to be able to read what was on them. Thinking for a moment, an idea suddenly sparked in his brain, "Ben, hook up your tricorder if you can. It has a translation matrix in it does it not?" he asked the man. (reply Soma, ALL) (Posted by Kerry Fletcher) (Maltoria- Power Station- ATac Ensign (jg) Ben Soma-2145) After everyone had entered the building Commander West had split the away team into groups of two to search for a communications terminal. Ben had been selected by West and so he followed the Commander to the north end of the room. The area was filled with various equipment and computer stations, almost like a federation relay station. The displays were full of information in Maltorian so Ben was uncertain what system was doing what. Commander West had stopped at one terminal and tapped the screen but nothing had happened, it was worth a shot even though it had no effect. Then he said, "Ben, hook up your tricorder if you can. It has a translation matrix in it does it not?" Ben smiled slightly, "It does indeed. Let's see how it does with the Maltorian language." He pulled out the tricorder and flipped it open, after a few adjustments Ben placed it on the terminal near what looked like a data port. Hitting a couple commands into the device he let the tricorder go to work, with a little luck it would be compatible with the Maltorian computer and everything would work out to their advantage. The tricorder continued to blink and beep as it interfaced with the alien computer and after a few minutes it was beginning to look like it was not going to work when the Maltorian data began changing to English. Ben smiled down at the little tricorder and thought what a truly beautiful thing it was, easily worth its weight tenfold in gold pressed latinum. He turned to West and said, "Commander, looks like we're making progress. The translation matrix is beginning to work. In a couple minutes we should be able to get some information out of this terminal." (reply West) Ben looked at the tricoder as it worked away on translating the alien language, mostly it was pretty smooth going only the odd character or small group of characters was causing a little trouble. Given a little time he was confident the tricorder would do what it was meant to do. "Commander, shall I inform the others and have them interface their tricorders as well? Though I'm fairly certain Lt’s Bracken and Alosar have probably already came to the same conclusion." Trevan nodded, "You're right, they probably have but inform them anyway." he said looking down at the screen in front of him. The letter blocks were starting to get translated slowly, some of the screen however was still in Maltorian, but from what he could read thus far, the screen he was looking at seemed to be a general status display showing the power requirements for whatever area it was serving and the amount of power available for that area. The two screens on his far left, angled towards him, were fully translated into Federation Standard and showed that one of them was the main database screen. However, he could not access it yet as the display keys had yet to be translated, but it was good to know there was a database they could attempt to access for information such as where they were and how far they were from their intended destination. None of them however, seemed to be a communications panel, "West to Away Team," he said into his badge, "Inform me if you find anything that looks remotely like a communication device."
